DETROIT (AP) - Police Chief James Craig, former city councilman Ken Cockrel, Jr., and Kresge Foundation president and chief executive Rip Rapson are scheduled to participate in a panel discussion on downtown Detroit as a neighborhood.

The discussion will be held Friday as part of the Downtown Detroit Partnership’s 2014 annual meeting at Cobo Center.

Craig has instituted multiple initiatives and police raids aimed at removing felons, drugs and guns from Detroit streets since taking over last year as chief.

Cockrel now is executive director of Detroit Future City, an organization working with city leaders to develop a plan for the long-term revitalization of Detroit and its neighborhoods. The Troy-based Kresge Foundation is providing the initial funding for Detroit Future City.

Mayor Mike Duggan is expected to give remarks at the luncheon.
