KIRBY, Vt. (AP) - Vermont state police say a teenage runaway is safe, while the New Hampshire man she was traveling with faces numerous charges, after the pair were found in North Carolina.

The 16-year-old girl from Kirby, Vt., was reported missing Friday. Authorities said Saturday she was found in North Carolina with 23-year-old Matthew Keene of Stark, N.H.

Vermont police say Keene is being held Edenton, N.C., pending his return to Vermont to face a charge of unlawful restraint. Police say he also faces charges of violating probation and violating the sex offender registry law in Connecticut.

It wasn’t immediately known whether Keene has an attorney.
