LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - Two women in Las Cruces are accused of child abuse after allegedly leaving their children home alone for several hours.
Dona Ana County Sheriff’s officials say 22-year-old Mayra Golden and 29-year-old Manuela Rodriguez initially told investigators they had gone to a neighbor’s house to shower early Friday while their children were sleeping.
The children are ages 4 and 12.
When they returned nearly four hours later, they discovered their home had been broken into and belongings in the house were broken and scattered. The two children were also missing.
Investigators say another woman came to the home, found the unattended children and took them to her house because she didn’t want them to be left alone.
Golden and Rodriguez each posted $10,000 bonds and are out of jail.
