BELLEFONTE, Pa. (AP) - State police have been trying to find a man who stole a sport utility vehicle issued to the fire chief in a central Pennsylvania borough.

Troopers from the Rockview barracks say the suspect then crashed and abandoned the 2004 Ford Explorer on a rural road in a neighboring township.

Officials in Bellefonte, the seat of Centre County, aren’t commenting on the theft, except to say the vehicle was not stolen from inside the borough.

That’s why state police at Rockview are investigating the theft, which reportedly happened Sunday about 4 a.m.

Police found the disabled vehicle on Garbrick Road in neighboring Spring Township.

State police say the vehicle was parked at the fire official’s residence when it was stolen.
