ELIZABETH, N.J. (AP) - A northern New Jersey landscaper stands accused of stealing about $180,000 from a 96-year-old customer.

Union County prosecutors say 54-year-old Denis Marvin Solis of West Orange faces charges of theft and theft by deception. His bail was set at $75,000 and it was not known Monday if he has retained an attorney.

Prosecutors say the thefts occurred over a four-year period.

Solis, the principal of a local landscaping company, allegedly stole various sums of money from the Springfield woman in a variety of ways.

Prosecutors say Solis had her write checks of far greater value than were appropriate for work his company performed at her home. He also allegedly accepted payments for work his company never did.

The alleged scheme was discovered after a friend of the victim contacted authorities.
