NEW YORK (AP) - The story of Benedict Arnold’s wife as depicted in a best-selling novel by the daughter of former New York Gov. George Pataki may be headed to the big and small screens.

Princess Pictures announced Monday that it had acquired film and television rights to Allison Pataki’s first book, “The Traitor’s Wife.” Princess Pictures will work on the project with Anonymous Content, a production and management agency which developed HBO’s “True Detective.”

Pataki’s novel was released last month. It centers on Peggy Shippen Arnold, whose husband was an American general notorious for defecting to the British side.

Pataki has said the colonial heritage of upstate New York helped inspire her to write the novel.

George Pataki was the Republican governor of New York from 1995 to 2006.
