DECATUR, Ga. (AP) - Bond was been set at $50,000 on Tuesday for a suspended Douglas County elementary school principal who was arrested in an undercover child sex sting.

John Harold McGill is facing child porn and exploitation charges and made a first appearance in DeKalb County Court. He was one of 14 people who were arrested in a sting the Georgia Bureau of Investigation called “Operation Broken Heart.”

An arrest warrant says McGill responded to a Craigslist advertisement over the weekend and talked with an undercover officer who posed as a child’s mother looking to arrange for a man to meet her teenage daughter, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (https://bit.ly/1fFg2t8 ).

The warrant says McGill, of Mt. Carmel Elementary School, told the agent he has “taught other girls” and would go slow.

McGill’s attorney, Mac Pilgrim, disputes the allegations and said the warrant doesn’t mention the age of the girl McGill thought he was arranging to meet with.

“The warrant said ‘teenage daughter.’ That could mean 16 or 18. The evidence is different than the warrant.” Pilgrim said, adding that his client will plead not guilty to the charges.

Pilgrim expected McGill to be released from custody Tuesday night and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 17.
