ST. FRANCISVILLE, La. (AP) - Emergency crews have rescued the driver of a pickup who was trapped inside the vehicle submerged in chest-deep water near old La. 10.

The Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/1mTyWAi ) the accident happened Tuesday at the end of Ferdinand Street - the former La. 10 - at about 1:30 p.m.

Chief Deputy Randy Metz says the truck reportedly ran off the road and went into the water, known locally as the “gator pit,” near the old ferry landing.

Sheriff J. Austin Daniel says the driver, 65-year-old George Cathey Jr., of Winnfield, was in stable condition at West Feliciana Parish Hospital.

Daniel says it was still unclear what happened. The crash remains under investigation.
