AMADO, Ariz. (AP) - The Pima County Sheriff’s Department says a 3-year-old boy is in stable condition after accidentally shooting himself.

Sheriff’s Deputy Tracy Suitt says in a news release that deputies responded to the shooting at a home in Amado around 12:40 p.m. Monday. The boy shot himself in the lower torso.

Suitt says the child was flown to a trauma center, where he underwent surgery. Suitt says the boy is in stable condition.

The shooting is under investigation, and no other information was immediately released.

Amado is about 40 miles south of Tucson.
