FLORENCE, Ariz. (AP) - Pinal County authorities say an Oracle man is in custody for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend.

Saul Lionel Villa was arrested after he turned himself in to county sheriff’s deputies on Monday.

The 27-year-old Villa is being held in the Pinal County Jail on suspicion of aggravated assault, kidnapping, disorderly conduct with a firearm, tampering with evidence and threatening and intimidating.

A nurse at Oro Valley Hospital called the sheriff’s office early Saturday to report a 31-year-old woman was being treated for assault injuries.

The woman says she and Villa had been drinking and he later struck her in the head with a handgun and choked her.

Authorities say the woman had a cut on her head and showed other signs of physical abuse.

It’s unclear if Villa has a lawyer.
