SANTEE, S.C. (AP) - Three people have died and six others were hurt when an SUV collided with a parked tractor trailer rig on Interstate 95 in Orangeburg County.

South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Judd Jones said the wreck happened shortly before 10:30 a.m. Wednesday just north of the I-26 interchange.

Jones says the SUV was traveling north when the driver ran off the road and struck the rear of the rig parked on the shoulder of the road. Jones says three people in the SUV died at the scene and six others were taken to area hospitals with serious injuries.

Jones says the driver of the rig was not hurt.

The names of the victims have not been released.

Troopers are continuing to investigate the crash.
