BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A Birmingham man who was found with cocaine during a 2010 traffic stop has been convicted of possession with the intent to distribute.
Federal prosecutors say 40-year-old Eritrean national Biniam Asghedom was convicted Tuesday after a two-day trial in Birmingham. Authorities say the man was caught with about a pound of cocaine during a traffic stop in December of 2010.
Investigators have said they tracked the man from a known drug location and he was one of several people who became the focus of a Drug Enforcement Administration probe.
Aside from the drugs, prosecutors say authorities found $14,500 in the truck he was riding in.
Prosecutors say Asghedom is scheduled to be sentenced June 25.
