WIGGINS, Miss. (AP) - A developer plans to invest $5 million to improve the Flint Creek Water Park, which is owned by the Pat Harrison Waterway District.

Russell Ryals tells WLOX-TV (https://bit.ly/1crDZ71) that he plans to build swimming pools, hot tubs, water slides and a lazy river at Flint Creek, in Stone County.

Officials gathered Monday to launch construction on what will be called the Splash of Fun Water Park. The new park will replace existing water slides, with developers aiming to open by Memorial Day.

Ryals and other leaders hope to add other attractions later, including a sports complex, golf course, marina and convention center.

Pat Harrison Waterway District Executive Director Hiram Boone says he hopes the new park will attract more people from Alabama, Louisiana and other states.
