LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A Little Rock police officer is on administrative leave while the department investigates the officer’s shooting of a man who allegedly pointed a loaded handgun at police early Wednesday.

Police say officers tracked a suspect after he allegedly robbed a convenience store and fled into the woods with beer and cash. Police say the officers located the suspect and tried to get him to drop his handgun.

Police say said the man refused, so officers released a K-9 on the suspect twice, but the suspect still refused to drop the weapon and pointed it at officers.

Authorities say one of the officers fired on the man, hitting him multiple times.

According to police, the man was taken to a hospital and remains in critical condition.
