NEW YORK (AP) - Police say two Romanian nationals have been arrested in New York City for trying to steal people’s banking information by planting a debit card skimmer on an ATM.

Detective Robert Cimino of the NYPD Financial Crimes Task Force said Wednesday Laurentiu Baies and Marcel Boarau had only been in the U.S. for about a month when they were picked up Tuesday.

Police say the 34-year-old Baies and the 36-year-old Boarau were charged with criminal possession of a skimmer device and other charges. It wasn’t clear if they had an attorney.

Police say they placed a card reader on the door outside a Chase Bank in Brooklyn, mounting cameras on the ATM to record pin numbers.

They say the men were arrested at the bank two hours after planting the skimmer.
