PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - An Eagle Butte man has pleaded guilty to two federal charges stemming from a fatal shootout and standoff with law enforcement officers in Pierre in late October.

Twenty-seven-year-old Jason Todd Garreau on Wednesday pleaded guilty to one count of assaulting, resisting and impeding federal officers and one count of discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence.

Earlier he had pleaded not guilty to 19 counts. KCCR radio reports that 17 counts were dismissed as part of a plea agreement. Garreau has been scheduled to be sentenced in June.

During the Hyde County shootout, 24-year-old John Garreaux, of Dupree, was killed. In the nine-hour standoff at the Pierre mobile home, two police officers were wounded by gunfire.
