STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (AP) - Kenneth Ortiz matched a season high with 21 points as second-seeded Wagner rolled past No. 7 seed Central Connecticut 83-59 in a quarterfinal of the Northeast Conference tournament on Wednesday night.

The win was the ninth straight for the Seahawks (19-11), who will host fourth-seeded Mount St. Mary’s on Saturday. Wagner shot away from Central Connecticut (11-19) after the first 5 minutes when Mario Moody scored for a 5-4 lead and the Seahawks never looked back, building leads as large as 11 before halftime.

Ortiz is the first player to be named Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Year for three straight seasons. The Seahawks forced 15 turnovers with eight steals, and owned the boards, outrebounding the Blue Devils 56-44. Marcus Burton and Orlando Parker scored 13 each for Wagner.

Kyle Vinales led the Blue Devils with 20 points and Brandon Peel had seven blocked shots and 12 points for CCSU.
