CALEDONIA, Miss. (AP) - The town of Caledonia is spending $5,000 on an annexation study.

Mayor Bill Lawrence tells The Commercial Dispatch (https://bit.ly/1ordmyB ) that Oxford-based firm Bridge & Watson Inc., conduct a comprehensive study on what would happen if Caledonia’s town limits were expanded.

Chris Watson, with Bridge & Watson Inc., told aldermen Tuesday that the company will consider how the increase of size would affect everything from town’s services to financial impacts to demographics.

Watson says town of about 1,200 people is seeing growth around its edges.

Lawrence says the study is just a start. He doesn’t know if the city will undertake an annexation but the study will help with the decision.

Aldermen did not indicate Tuesday what areas surrounding the town they will consider for annexation.
