FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - A Fresno gang member has been sentenced to life in prison for killing a woman and her unborn child eight years ago.

The Fresno Bee reports (https://bit.ly/1lBlZcN) 29-year-old Jose Angel Perez Jr. apologized to the family of the victim before being sentenced Wednesday.

Perez said he was ready to accept responsibility for his actions.

Twenty-year-old Nath Ouch was eight months pregnant when she was gunned down outside an apartment complex during the early hours of Feb. 1, 2006.

The killings drove Ouch’s husband, Chanbory Nop, to commit suicide shortly after her death.

The jury that convicted Perez of first-degree murder also found true special allegations that the killings were committed for the benefit of the Asian Boyz street gang.

Several other gang members were convicted in the case.
