The country’s very first birthing center that doubles as an abortion clinic has opened in Buffalo, N.Y.

The Birthing Center of Buffalo is run by Dr. Katharine Morrison and offers abortions up to 22 weeks, as well as traditional gynecological services.

The facility will be only the third in the nation to offer nurse-midwifery services with an emphasis on natural childbirth, the Associated Press reported.

“I see a connection between respecting a woman’s right to decide to end a pregnancy and her right to determine how she has her baby,” Dr. Morrison told the Buffalo News in August.

The center officially opened on Valentine’s Day of this year.

“We passed our inspection by the Department of Health and we are cleared for birth at our beautiful, free-standing birthing center,” representatives posted on Facebook. “This is for you, women of Buffalo!”

The clinic has received a flood of support, but some pro-lifers are still not on board.

“It’s absolutely ludicrous that those who specialize in taking life claim they are qualified to help women give birth,” Stasia Zoladz Vogel, president of the Buffalo Regional Right to Life Committee, told the Buffalo News.

“I’m not opposed to birthing centers. There is a low-risk population for which they would be suitable. But I urge people to be cautious,” said Dr. Julie Gavin, president of the Buffalo Gynecologic and Obstetric Society.
