STUTTGART, Germany (AP) - Promising winger Timo Werner has committed to Stuttgart until 2018 by signing his first professional contract on his 18th birthday.

The Bundesliga club says on its website that Werner, one of the few positives to emerge from a poor season, signed the deal on Thursday.

Werner has four goals and four assists in 21 Bundesliga games since his debut in August. The then 17-year-old winger scored at Eintracht Frankfurt on Sept. 22 to become Stuttgart’s youngest scorer in 120 years of the club. He has been with the club since 2004.

Werner says “it’s something very special for me. It’s a dream being realized.”

Kicker magazine reports the new contract is valid for the second division. Stuttgart is flirting with relegation after eight consecutive losses.
