JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) - Whether to allow Grand Teton National Park to acquire land owned by the state school trust is now up to Gov. Matt Mead.
Wyoming lawmakers passed a bill Thursday allowing the trust to trade two 640-acre inholdings in the park for land of equal worth elsewhere in the state, sending the measure on to Mead. The governor has supported similar efforts previously.
The Jackson Hole Daily (https://bit.ly/1n2NLkg) reports that lawmakers changed Sen. Leland Christensen’s bill several times to try to make sure that Wyoming gets a fair deal for the land.
The State Loan and Investment Board would be in charge of negotiating the swap. The board is composed of the governor, secretary of state, state auditor, state treasurer and state superintendent of public instruction.
