PETOSKEY, Mich. (AP) - Police say a northern Michigan woman in prison for the fatal shooting of her husband told investigators that she burned down her own restaurant in 1986.

The Petoskey News-Review and The Grand Rapids Press and report that police in Petoskey say Carol Kopenkoskey made the statement to investigators ahead of sentencing in the murder case. The fire destroyed the Country Inn Restaurant in Petoskey on June 30, 1986.

Public Safety Director John Calabrese says the fire case had been open, but the statute of statute of limitations has run out.

Calabrese says investigators don’t have a motive for the fire.

Kopenkoskey was sentenced in February to 18 to 35 years in prison in Lyle Kopenkoskey’s slaying in 2012. His body was found in Resort Township, northeast of Traverse City.
