FOND DU LAC, Wis. (AP) - The mother of an 8-year-old boy accused of injuring two puppies with bleach is charged in Fond du Lac County.

The 30-year-old woman is accused of failing to take action after learning about the injured 6-week-old puppies. The dogs, Tina and Turner, suffered chemical burns to their eyes and mouths, and both were treated for inflammation of the lungs.

An exam this week showed the burns and eye ulcers have healed, officials said. The male puppy, which was found in a plastic bag in a trash container, had more lung damage.

“An X-ray showed that Turner has scarring in both lungs which the veterinarian feels is likely to be permanent,” Fond du Lac Humane Society Shelter Manager Renee Webb said. “It’s something that will make him more susceptible to lung infections for the rest of his life.”

The mother is charged with one felony count of mistreatment of animals and six misdemeanor counts of intentionally giving poison to an animal, intentional abandonment of an animal, intentionally providing improper outdoor animal shelter from inclement weather and disorderly conduct, all as party to the crime, according to the Action Reporter Media (https://fondul.ac/1g5f6gb ).

The Associated Press is not naming the mother to protect the identity of the boy

Police reports said the boy admitted dumping bleach on the puppies because he was mad at the male for biting his feet.

The woman initially told police she did not know where the male puppy was, but later admitted she knew her son poured bleach on the male and left it in the trash container, the criminal complaint said.
