HAMMOND, La. (AP) - Hammond firefighters have new fire equipment to work with.

Chief John Thomas tells The Daily Star (https://bit.ly/1g7y4PM ) that the new engine and crash fire rescue truck for the Hammond Northshore Regional Airport went into service at the end of February.

Ferrara Fire Apparatus of Holden manufactured the new units.

Previously, firefighters used a 1985 model engine at the airport. It was retired late in 2013.
