RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - A private security guard at a Raleigh department store already facing an extortion charge has been arrested a second time in connection with two shoplifting incidents.

A statement from Raleigh police said 37-year-old Modou Thomas was arrested on Feb. 28 and charged with extortion. Investigators said he sent text messages to a woman accused of shoplifting, offering to help her avoid conviction in exchange for having sex with him.

Police said coverage from that arrest led another woman to come forward saying Thomas had offered to help her in exchange for sex.

Thomas was arrested again on Thursday. He is being held under $50,000 bond in the Wake County jail. It’s not known if he has an attorney.
