OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) - The Alabama Bureau of Investigation is continuing to probe a shooting that involved an Opelika police officer.

Opelika police on Friday identified the officer as Phillip Hancock, a seven-year veteran with the department. He’s been placed on administrative leave with pay while the investigation is ongoing.

The Opelika-Auburn News reports (https://bit.ly/1fUco8O) that police responded to a report of a shooting involving an officer shortly after 7 p.m. Thursday along the northbound lane of Interstate 85.

One person was wounded and taken to East Alabama Medical Center following the gunfire. Hancock was not injured.

The name of the wounded person had not been released, and few other details of the shooting have been shared by police.

As of Friday, no charges had been filed.
