FRANKLIN, Va. (AP) - Virginia peanut growers are donating more than 10,000 jars of peanut butter to the Federation of Virginia Food Banks.

The donation coincides with National Peanut Month, which is being marked in March. The Virginia Peanut Board and the Virginia Peanut Growers Association teamed up with Planters to contribute the peanut butter.

This is the second year the growers and Planters have donated peanut butter to the state’s food banks. This year’s giving tops by more than 4,000 pounds last year’s donation.

Food banks covet peanut butter because of its convenience and protein.
