UTICA, N.Y. (AP) - Officials say an infant has died in a fire that caused heavy damage to the second-story of a Utica residence.

Utica Fire Chief Russell Brooks tells local media outlets that crews were called to the scene shortly before 11 a.m. Sunday. When they got there, flames and smoke were visible and there were reports of people trapped inside.

The baby was removed from the house and pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy is planned to determine the exact cause of death.

No details were immediately available on how many people lived in the house and whether there were any more injuries.
