PHILIPPI, W.Va. (AP) - The Barbour County Democratic Executive Committee has selected three candidates to replace former Sheriff John Hawkins, who resigned after pleading guilty to a fraud charge.
Committee chairman Jude McConnell tells The Exponent Telegram (https://bit.ly/1n9kyUJ) that interim Sheriff Philip Ferguson has the panel’s highest recommendation. The other candidates are Travis Roberts and Scott Bookout.
McConnell says the committee will send the names to the Barbour County Commission. The County Commission can appoint a sheriff from among them or choose someone else.
The County Commission appointed Ferguson as interim sheriff Feb. 20.
