ELIZABETH, N.J. (AP) - A man convicted in the violent sexual assault of a northern New Jersey woman has been sentenced to 21 years in prison.

Union County prosecutors say 32-year-old Edwin Chimilio-Calletano of Plainfield will be on lifetime parole supervision under the sentence imposed Friday. He was convicted last October on six charges, including aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault and weapons offenses.

The attack occurred in August 2011, when the 22-year-old victim was grabbed from behind after she left her job at a neighborhood bar. She was beaten with a socket wrench, dragged behind a building and sexually assaulted.

A resident heard the woman’s screams and called police, who arrested Chimilio-Calletano as her emerged from behind the building.

The victim suffered a severe leg injury and bruising to her arms, legs, and back.
