NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (AP) - State police say a 30-year-old man has died after crashing his car while speeding away from pursuing officers.

Troopers say a radio call from Niagara Falls Police shortly before 5 a.m. Sunday reported that a car was speeding through the city without its headlights on. The older model Monte Carlo nearly struck a state police car on Niagara Falls Boulevard.

Troopers pursued the vehicle as it sped through a stoplight. After another mile, the Monte Carlo rear-ended another vehicle in an intersection.

Police say the driver of the Monte Carlo, 30-year-old Lewis Worrells of Niagara Falls, died later at a hospital. The other driver was taken to a hospital but refused treatment.
