EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) - Illinois State Police say a suspected drunken driver in southwestern Illinois crashed into the back of a state trooper’s cruiser occupied by the trooper and another allegedly impaired motorist.

The Belleville News-Democrat (https://bit.ly/1k6LjEK) reports that the trooper and the two suspects sustained injuries not considered life-threatening in the crash about 3:30 a.m. Saturday along Interstate 64 in St. Clair County. Their medical statuses were not immediately clear Sunday.

Trooper Calvin Dye says the trooper was completing paperwork in his patrol car, with a suspected drunken driver in the back seat, when the cruiser was hit from behind.

The names of the three people injured were not immediately released.
