OWOSSO, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say a 77-year-old woman has been found dead following a fire at a home in Owosso.

The Argus-Press of Owosso and The Flint Journal report crews responded Wednesday in the Shiawassee County community about 70 miles northwest of Detroit and found her body.

The woman’s name wasn’t immediately released.

Public safety Chief Kevin Lenkart says officials believe the fire took place sometime Tuesday night or early Wednesday. The cause wasn’t known. He says the woman may have been overcome by smoke while trying to extinguish the fire in the home’s living room.

Lenkart says the fire went out by itself and the home had some smoke damage.
