GASTONIA, N.C. (AP) - Halifax Media Group of Daytona Beach, Florida, has appointed a new regional publisher for a dozen newspapers and related websites in North Carolina and South Carolina.

Lucy Talley will be based in Gastonia and serve a publisher of The Gaston Gazette (https://bit.ly/R7jhPN ) and The (Shelby) Star. She succeeds Rick Martin who has been appointed as Halifax’s chief operation officer.

Talley is currently vice president for Hearst Corporation Community Newspapers in Freeland, Michigan. She starts her new job on May 12.

Before joining Hearst, Talley was advertising director and general manager for The Post and Courier in Charleston, South Carolina, president and publisher for the Salisbury Post and president and publisher of Florida-based Times-Union Media.

Besides the Gastonia and Shelby papers, Talley will also oversee Halifax papers in Wilmington, Burlington, Jacksonville, Lexington, Kinston, Havelock, New Bern, Hendersonville, Topsail Beach and Spartanburg, South Carolina.
