PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) - Boaters will be able to launch again from Point Park Friday afternoon, and the timing couldn’t be better with near perfect weather in the weekend forecast.

“The Point Park Project has the potential of drawing thousands of people to Pascagoula’s beachfront,” Parks & Recreation Director Darcie Crew told The Sun Herald (https://bit.ly/1jkTwWC ).

“We are introducing ‘Movie Night Under the Stars’ this summer, and look forward to using it for more events in the future,” Crew said.

A few finishing touches such as paving and landscaping are scheduled for completion this week.

The city is working with the contractor to determine when the amphitheater, parking and restrooms will be completed.

The project was financed using a combination of Tidelands, CIAP and in-house funding from the Department of Parks and Recreation. The total projected cost of the project is $1.4 million.

The city also received $100,000 from CIAP for additional parking and another $250,000 to renovate the boat ramps in future phases of the project.

The project did not include boat launch repairs.
