ST. LOUIS (AP) - A robbery suspect is expected to recover after being shot by a St. Louis police officer.

Police say a 21-year-old man robbed a McDonald’s restaurant in north St. Louis Wednesday night, then ran to a getaway car, which drove away without him as officers approached.

Police say the suspect pointed a gun at officers, who opened fire. The suspect was struck several times and taken to a hospital. Details about his injuries were not immediately released.

The getaway car driver crashed and was taken into custody.

Officers at the scene of the robbery say they recovered a backpack containing gun magazines and money.
