DEERING, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire State Police say a 62-year-old Deering woman is dead after the SUV she was driving collided head-on with a fire truck.

Authorities say Kerry Ainsworth was traveling northbound on Route 149 Sunday evening in Deering when she crossed into the southbound lane.

Troopers say the driver of the fire truck, William Bannister III, tried to avoid a collision by veering into the northbound lane, but Ainsworth swerved back and crashed head-on into the truck.

State police say Ainsworth was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Bannister and another firefighter suffered minor injuries.

WMUR-TV reports the firefighters were returning from a brush fire in Deering when the crash occurred.

State police continue to investigate.
