FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - Fort Wayne firefighters say a child playing with a lighter caused a house fire in which a 4-year-old boy was found hiding inside burning home.

Battalion Chief Dennis Maxwell says the boy’s mother told firefighters she thought he was still inside the two-story house when they arrived Sunday evening. Maxwell says crews spotted the boy hiding inside an entertainment center cabinet on the first floor and brought him outside.

The Journal Gazette and WOWO Radio report the boy and woman were treated at a hospital for minor smoke inhalation.

The fire was contained to an upstairs bedroom of the house on the city’s southeast side. Firefighters extinguished in about 10 minutes.
