LAS VEGAS, N.M. (AP) - A Las Vegas-area man who was fatally shot by New Mexico State Police officers last Thursday had been fired from his city job earlier in the day.

State Police said the officers shot 48-year-old Arcenio Lujan after he pointed a rifle at the officers after they went to his resident because of a report of a suicidal man.

The Las Vegas Optic (https://ow.ly/wKnE1 ) reports that a search warrant affidavit filed Friday in state District Court states that Lujan was upset over being fired from his job as a parks maintenance worker.

Lujan was fired after walking out of a meeting during which a supervisor questioned him about alleged abuse of prescription medication while working.
