ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - Police are investigating weekend shootings outside an Athens nightclub that killed one man and injured another.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1oljPzo ) police believe both victims were innocent bystanders who got hit by gunfire in the parking lot outside Bootleggers nightclub at about 2:40 a.m. Saturday.

Athens-Clarke County police say 22-year-old Derrick Merritt was killed. A second man, 22-year-old Jamaris Antrellis Walter, was taken to a hospital for treatment Saturday but was not listed as a patient Sunday.

Police are seeking help from witnesses with any information about the shootings. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting with the case.
