ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Three New Mexico women are facing child abuse charges after deputies say they left a 10-year-old boy home alone amid squalid conditions.

The Albuquerque Journal reports (https://goo.gl/mibxBV) that Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office deputies found the boy Saturday near Albuquerque following a tip.

According to a criminal complaint, inside the home were maggots and uncooked chicken on parts on the stove, rotting trash throughout the kitchen and bedrooms, buckets used instead of toilets, and floors soaked in an unknown fluid.

The children’s mother, 33-year-old Teresa Martinez; aunt, 22-year-old Angelic Vasquez; and grandmother, 56-year-old Evelyn Vasquez, 56, returned home when deputies were in the house.

All three women were charged with two counts of child abuse and a conspiracy charge.

It was not known if they had attorneys.
