LIBERTY, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a 40-year-old upstate New York man has been charged with raping a 16-year-old girl who had run away from home.

The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office tells the Times Herald-Record of Middletown (https://bit.ly/1l2pUMh ) that the girl from Liberty was reported missing on Wednesday. Deputies launched a search and found her hiding under a tarp in the woods off Route 17 in the village.

Officials say their investigation revealed she was a runaway who was involved in a relationship with Robert L. Dunn Sr. of Liberty. He was charged with rape, disseminating indecent material to a minor via a computer and endangering the welfare of a minor.

Dunn is being held in the county jail on $50,000 bail. It couldn’t be determined if he has a lawyer.
