CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - Governor Maggie Hassan has directed that flags fly at half-staff in honor of a New Hampshire police officer killed after responding to a domestic dispute call in Brentwood.

Hassan said Officer Steve Arkell bravely answered the call of duty and made the ultimate sacrifice. Flags are flying at half-staff Tuesday.

State Attorney General Joseph Foster said Monday night that the 48-year-old Arkell answered the domestic dispute call at about 4 p.m. and was fatally shot when he arrived at the house.

The suspected gunman, 47-year-old Michael Nolan, was presumed dead Monday after a late afternoon fire demolished the duplex in a tree-lined neighborhood restricted to people 55 and older.
