LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Louisville Gas & Electric has agreed to be the principal sponsor of a riverboat festival being held this fall to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first launch of the riverboat now known as the Belle of Louisville.

Last month, state officials cut more than $400,000 from the Waterfront Development Corp. budget. The agency considered cutting parts of the planned Belle celebration.

The agency’s special events coordinator, Ashley Smith, told The Courier-Journal (https://cjky.it/SUf0k8 ) on Monday that the budget for the Oct. 14-19 event remains around $1.2 million.

Officials wouldn’t say how much LG&E; has committed to the Centennial Festival of Riverboats Powered by LG&E;, but Smith said a total of about $750,000 has now been pledged for the event.
