NEW YORK (AP) - Police have arrested a man they say fatally beat and then attempted to rob a 68-year-old man in Manhattan.

Police said Tuesday Jamie Pugh was arrested on murder, attempted robbery and assault charges in the death of Ruan Wen Hui (roo-AHN’ wehn HWEE’).

The 20-year-old Pugh was in custody and unavailable for comment. It wasn’t clear if he had an attorney. Police say he was identified after someone called their confidential tip line.

Authorities say Hui was walking on East 6th Street between Avenues C and D in the East Village Friday night when Pugh yelled and pushed him against a wall.

That’s when they say he fell to the ground and Pugh punched and kicked him in the head.

He was hospitalized and later pronounced dead on Saturday.
