CAYCE, S.C. (AP) - Lt. Gov. Glen McConnell is helping start a new non-partisan, nonprofit group that will assist South Carolina’s older people to live independently.

McConnell is being joined Tuesday by Tracy Doran of the state Humanities Foundation and Mike Couick of the Electric Cooperatives of South Carolina at a news conference in Cayce. They’re announcing the creation of Sustaining Our Seniors.

The organization will work to connect older folks to volunteers and resources and to promote public-private partnerships to help seniors live independently.

Over the next 15 years, the population of those over 65 in South Carolina is expected to grow to more than 2 million.
