LEVANNA, Ohio (AP) - Searchers have found the body of an Ohio River canoeist who was presumed drowned after his companion’s body was located in the water last week.

An Ohio Department of Natural Resources spokesman says a Division of Watercraft officer spotted the second body Tuesday, several miles from where the canoeists began their trip.

The spokesman says the Bracken County, Kentucky, coroner’s office was called, and the body was identified as 20-year-old Cameron Buerger of Troy, which is north of Dayton, Ohio.

A volunteer found the other canoeist, 19-year-old Marty Stanaford, on Friday. That was six days after the pair set out in a 15-foot canoe from Levanna, Ohio, about an hour upstream from Cincinnati.

The canoe was found 60 miles from their last known location.
