PHOENIX (AP) - University of Arizona and Phoenix officials say a new campus research building will be constructed in the city’s downtown.

Officials made the announcement Thursday that the new Biosciences Partnership Building will be built pending a vote by the Arizona Board of Regents.

Regents are scheduled to vote June 6.

The school would break ground on the $136 million project by the end of this year.

The project is estimated to generate 500 construction jobs and 360 permanent positions upon being built.

The university’s medical school in Phoenix graduated its fourth class on Monday.

The medical school is part of the Phoenix Biomedical Campus, which also includes other health-related units of the UA and Northern Arizona University as well as the Translational Genomics Research Institute.
