PHOENIX (AP) - An exhibit showcasing the nation’s highest military honor and its connection to past Arizona service members is set to open in Tempe.

“Above and Beyond: Arizona and the Medal of Honor” will be on display for the public starting Sunday at the Arizona Historical Society Museum at Papago Park.

Organizers say the exhibit features five Medals of Honor and the stories of how they were earned after actions done in Arizona or abroad by natives to the state.

They say one of the medals was discovered buried in dirty by a man with a metal detector.

The exhibit will be open for six months before traveling around the state for the next two and a half years.

It is scheduled to be in Tucson, Yuma, Flagstaff and Prescott.
